The History of Waist Shapers:
CoreSculptTM: line of bras and underwear features wide straps for elevated comfort and featherlight soft stretch moisture-wicking fabric – no hardware, no lines, all comfort!
Risks Vs Rewards:
To reduce the size of your waist, you need to cinch it regularly. According to Shapellx most women usually start by having it on for only a few hours a day, leading up to a total of eight hours or more. The ultimate goal is to reduce the belly fat and get a tiny waist.
First the Fit:
Shapellx says the fit of your waist trainer matters. They say your body will adjust and get used to a cinched waist—but not if you’re wearing the wrong size. An effective waist trainer is as much about the pressure as it’s about comfort. There is a chart on the website to help you find the right fit.
I was sent the NeoSweat® Shaper Leggings With Removable Waist Belt ($89.60). When I opened the package I had some reservations. Looking at all those hooks, zippers and the double velcro belt, it really did look more like an instrument of torture than something I wanted to wear.
My first test was with size large, thinking that this is what I’d buy in leggings. The leggings are silky and comfortable 75% Nylon+25% Spandex. But these are waist trainers and not just leggings. At the top there are hooks, then a zipper. There was no way I could get both the hooks and zipper closed.
So went up two sizes to XXL. When I added the double and removable waist belt with seriously strong velcro, it felt restrictive, but it wasn’t painful. The dual waist belt has a line of steel bone at the back of the waist which can strengthen the effect of waist shaping. I noticed that the waist belt forced me to sit up straighter while I was working (and typing this review).
Diet and Exercise:
I hate to disappoint anyone who thinks all they have to do is wear a waist trainer to get a smaller waist. Nope. You have to eat right and exerciser too. In fact, you really have to exercise your core Don’t forget to read to the end and find out why in the Bottom Line Section of this story.
On the positive side, since the trainer cinches your waist it also compresses your stomach. You might feel full more quickly when you eat which means you might eat less while wearing the waist trainer. You should obviously avoid foods that maker you feel bloated, or heavy.
When Will You Get Results:
Everyone is different, so even Shapellx wisely doesn’t specifically claim a time period to get results. What they say is this: “After you’ve chosen the right fit, added clean eating and abdominal muscles exercises, you’re ready to get into the nitty-gritty details of waist snatchers routine. While putting it on is easy, you need to follow a regimen of gradually increased hours. We recommend starting on an empty stomach (in the morning) with no more than 2 hours for the first two-three days. And then, slowly increase with one hour a day until a maximum of 8 hours.”
Does it Hurt?
Not really. If you get the right size it shouldn’t feel painful or uncomfortable. It should feel like a “tight hug” that allows you to go about your day and engages your core muscles. If it feels painful, take it off and even consider consulting your doctor.
Don’t go over the 8 hours slot – thinking that the longer the better or the faster the results. Because it will be the opposite. Your spine and muscles will get used to the waist trainer. And that’s no Bueno. However, if you stick to the recommended amount the result could very well be a sculpted waist without a downside.
My Waist Shaper Experience:

these models are wearing the waist trainer leggings I tried

this is me, wearing the waist trainer leggings with the included belt
It’s hot in Florida where I live, and I couldn’t imagine wearing the waist belt outside without dying of the heat. But the leggings with double-layered, high-performance, and four-way stretch can cinch in your stomach. I didn’t notice it at first but peach-shaped buttocks are designed to shape plump buttocks.
It seemed easy enough to move around, but I was very aware of wearing the waist shaper/leggings combo. I initially fought the urge to just take the leggings and waist shapers off, but keep them on for two hours which was the recommended first treatment.
I didn’t go over an hour the first time as I began to breathe more heavily. Heed what your body is telling you. On the other hand, a part of me felt like I was doing something positive. It’s a way to get some definition without resorting to drastic means such as surgery as long as you don’t go crazy with it.
Also, you can’t wear leggings under everything. If I really wanted to “waist train” I’d get one that just wrapped around the waist so I could wear it under dresses and skirts. I do wear a lot of leggings and I actually really like the Shapellx ones, but not for every single day!
The Bottom Line:

thank heavens today’s waist trainers are not like these vintage corsets!
A waist trainer isn’t for everyone. If you want to try it consider consulting your doctor first. I’d heard all sorts of warnings about using waist trainers. It’s a matter of degree and being reasonable about how you wear the waist trainer, how long you wear it, and when you need to stop. Make sure you’re wearing the trainer loosely enough that you can take a breath and move without feeling too restricted. If you start to feel dizzy or short of breath, take it off immediately.
You need to be mindful of what you’re doing and for how long. Waist trainers might help you to sweat, lose water weight, and even make you feel like eating less. But they also restrict your oxygen intake. I would not wear one while vigorously exercising. Once I wore it a couple of times, I stopped. I might start again when the Winter comes around, but it’s just too hot to wear it for long where I live. However, Shapellx also has a shaping swimsuit if you’re ready to try it.
Waist trainers in the long term can cause a decrease in your core strength that causes muscle atrophy. So you have to work out if you’re wearing it for a prolonged period of time. Planks, crunches, and mountain climbers are great to help build your core strength. Any core movements will boost the results and help you keep your core tight while getting the benefits too.
This was fun to try and a fun article to write, with the product from Shapellx. But I’m not sure I could dedicate myself to a full routine of waist training. Could you? Your comments are welcome. For more information visit the Shapellx,
