Wen is a hair care line with seasonal scents but Chaz Dean offers more than just hair care. The Hollywood, CA stylist also has an impressive WEN Fragrance Collection. I tried two of the more than 18 seasonal fragrances: WEN Spring Honey Lilac and WEN Winter Red Currant.
Wen Spring Honey Lilac:
You won’t find a detailed list of fragrance notes but in Wen Spring Honey Lilac the lovey lilac is very evident.
The word “honey” made me think that this would be an uber-sweet “bee-centric” honeyed lilac. I was surprised that it wasn’t.
This fragrance transports me to my childhood garden (we had four huge lilac bushes). Lilac is such a romantic sweet and spicy floral. The honey and rose notes add depth to what this feminine floral fragrance.
Upon drydown though, you really see the nicely blended spiciness along with the other notes.
You can get this fragrance in three different sizes: a .33 oz. rollerball for $21 and a 7 ml for $14 and a full size 3.4 fl. oz. bottle for $122.50
Wen Winter Red Currant:
The Wen Winter Red Currant is available in a 33. oz. size ($30) and a 3.4 fl. oz, size ($175) The fragrance notes depict Winter Red Currant as: “a combination of red currant, bergamot, and orange perfect for Winter and also carries notes of rose and blackcurrant.”
You might be expecting a berried tart fragrance, but surprise! Wen Winter Red Currant isn’t. There’s a burst of berry to start, but it dries down to a fragrance that is green and herbaceous.
Think “dense forest canopy” and you get the idea.
The overall effect is almost powdery with rose peeking through. This one is truly an easy to love, gender-fluid fragrance.
WEN it comes to the packaging (sorry I couldn’t help one pun) The 3.5 fl. oz. bottles are really quite beautiful well designed.
Each bottle is a large chunk of clear rectangular glass feature a photograph peeking through the back of the bottle with minimal writing, just WEN and the name of the scent. The black cartons also feature the same photographs and gold lettering.
The topper is slightly cured clear square of rectangular plastic covering a silvery spray nozzle.
When you turn the bottle around there is a nice touch It’s a wish from Chaz Dean that says: “May You Be blessed with light, love, hope, strength, faith, joy, truth, honesty, understanding, wisdom, harmony, prosperity, success, health and happiness in all the years to come.”
The Bottom Line:
There are so many different fragrances to try. I wish I knew more about the perfumers and the notes even though I can appreciate them through my senses.
The packaging is very attractive–you’d be proud to display the bottle on your dresser.
Both of the fragrances I tried have “legs” so you won’t have to spray too much or too often to enjoy it for hours.
According to the Chaz Dean website, the fragrances are limited edition. As of press time, all of the fragrances were available on Chaz Dean WEN Website.
Beautiful fragrances really know no season. These would work as well for back to school as Spring or Winter!
