If you read my columns regularly you know that I rarely, if ever, review anything that is specifically made for children. With all the products I already have waiting in my queue to review every day, I just had to draw the line somewhere! But I decided to write this review on BabyGanics and Mustela, because their all-natural products for babies are also good for “babies” of any age. If your skin is sensitive, you want to treat it as carefully as a baby’s. And, for already over-burdened parent toting all the stuff that kids need for backyard, beach, and beyond, wouldn’t it be nice find “family friendly” products that every member of the family can use? Now that Summer is in full force, and people are traveling, visiting, and hanging out at home, sun protection is more important than ever. The items you choose to take in your tote, carry-on and purse, matter, even more.
When it comes to sun protection, BabyGanics has an impressive collection of sun screens with high SPF from solid sticks to lip balms, pump bottles to tiny, travel-friendly tubes, and sprays. All of them offer broad spectrum sun protection including some as high as SPF 5o. The products also moisturize, they’re hypoallergenic, without PABA, parabens, sulfates, phthlates, non-particles, or retinyl palmitate, plus they have a mineral based formula.
In a nice twist, it was two dads that designed this line. Kevin & Keith, BabyGanics founding-fathers, call themselves: “compulsive, clean-freaks,” but also “family guys.” According to their press literature, they read other ‘green’ labels and didn’t like what they saw. They believed they should make products that are not just safe for the planet, but also for people of all ages. Baby Ganics doesn’t just have sun protection, there are cleansers, and all sorts of other things you might want that will be good for your baby, and for yourself.
This feature is, however, about sun protection. What caught my eye, initially, was that some of the products, such as Cover Up Kids Face & Body sunscreen and Cover Up Baby Face & Body sunscreen, are water resistant for up to 80 minutes and are available in SPF 50+ and SPF 30. The SPF protection is high, but the prices are low, although the quality is impressive. A dozen, single-use tubes of the very nice, Cover Up Baby Face & Body Sun Screen come nicely boxed for just $12.99. The tubes aren’t just travel-friendly, smaller than the size of a traditional lip balm, they let you know how much lotion you really should be applying to an average body for good coverage. A baby’s body might get two uses out of a tube, but an adult will need all of one tube. The thing is, with travel-friendly tubes like these, you have just lost your last reason why you can’t wear sunblock all the time. For example, it’s a nice day and you want to eat your lunch in the park, but the sun is high, and hitting your bare arms and legs. If you have one of these tubes in your tote, you’ll get enough for a few hours’ worth of protection. No reason to carry around a bulky bottle (and potentially messy) of sunblock if you’re just going out for an hour or two.
A lot of these BabyGanics products are just nicely packaged, perfect for travel. . For example, a friend of mine with extremely sensitive skin grabbed the Cover Up Baby Sun Screen Stick. She applied it before we went to a flea market and had a picnic, and definitely didn’t get burned. The SPF 50 actives are 11.2% zinc oxide, 5% octisalate, and 7.5% oxtinoxate, and the SPF 30 lotion for children features 5% octinoxate, 3.5% octisalate, and 6.6% ZINC oxide. No smell, no greasy mess, no staining, well worth trying no matter what your age.
The BabyGanics Cover-Up Kisses Lip Balm Sunscreen with Broad Spectrum SPF 20 (UVA/UVB protection) is yet another that might be for babies and kids, but adults will want their own. These are available in orange cream or apple berry. The non-greasy, non-shiny balm has just a hint of scent to make it nicer for everyone. The balm is lightweight with no taste, and it feels moisturizing and pampering. You can even slick on your favorite lip color over it. The water-resistant formula is supposed to last up to 80 minutes. In addition, this is also a mineral sunscreen formula without paba, sulfates, phthalates, nano particles, parabens, or retinyl palmitate. The actives are 10% zinc oxide and 1.25% titanium dioxide. These lip balms enchanted my reviewers who are well over baby size and age. Everyone wanted one!
BabyGanics doesn’t kid around when it comes to protecting your precious skin. The products are safe, natural, nice to use, portable, and inexpensive. Whether you are a baby or a kid, or you have babies or kids, these are great choices. If you have sensitive skin, BabyGanics may especially be what you are seeking! Perfect attachment! I’m troubling by the ghastly weather of this hot season and as my skin is very sensitive so I don’t use any beauty products to save it but your recommended ‘Mustela’ is looking good enough for applying to protect and keep clean the skin. Thanks for the refer :).
