Have you ever stopped in the middle of something and thought: “I wonder what my pet is doing right now?”
Of course you have!
It’s just human nature to wonder what our beloved creatures are doing while we are away from home whether we’re at work, on vacation, at school, on a date….we always think of them. We might have only been away from home for a short while, or maybe we’ve been away for a long time, but we have a special bond with our pets.
If you have ever wondered if the pet sitter showed up, or if Fluffy is busy scratching your new furniture, or you are curious what Fido is doing while you’re away, or you are lonely and just want to “chat” with your pet, the Motorola Wi-Fi Video Pet Monitor camera that I saw demonstrated at a recent holiday gift preview, is your new must-have.
Monitor your pet? With a Scout1-B Pet Monitor camera from MOTOROLA, You Bet! Technology makes a lot of things possible, but I never thought I’d be able to connect with my cats from anywhere I could get an internet connection, and that I’d even be able to hear them and talk to them, play them soothing music (if I wanted to) and even snap still photos or take video and see them even in the dark. It sounds kind of amazing, but you can do it right now!
Depending upon the model of Motorola camera you choose, you will be able to do all these things: remote video pan, tilt and zoom and even talk to your pet, through an easy to download app. I got the “Everywhere (ME)” app for my Samsung Galaxy S4 Android phone from the Play Store. You can also get it for idevices from iTunes, or online.
The Scout1-B from MOTOROLA is the model I tested. This remote Wi-Fi video pet monitor camera really does it all. it operates remotely via a free, secure app (PC, MAC, Android, or iOS) . With this model I was able to catch the cats live, record video and take snapshots while controlling the camera with the remote pan, tilt and digital zoom function. Infrared night vision let me see what was going on even after dark, and I was able to talk to my cats and hear them (although they didn’t make much noise), with two-way radio communication. The camera and software technology is not only amazing, it is reasonably priced considering what you get, and you can use it with both iPhone and Android phones. The camera connects to your smart phone (or tablet or desktop computer) via the Internet so you can monitor your pet, and even talk to him or her, no matter where you are. That is amazing!!!
When I saw this demonstrated at a holiday gift guide event, I nearly went wild. I often wonder what my cats do when I’m not there. While it is true that they mostly sleep (and the Motorola Wi-Fi Viceo Pet Monitor camera confirmed this), being able to see my “fur babies” and talk to them while I was away for the weekend, was a surreal experience. When I talked to them I think they were a bit bewildered to hear my voice coming through the tiny speaker in the camera, and I did not play them any cat music, but I think it’s a nice way to make a more modern connection with your pets. You can hear your pets as well, assuming they have anything to say. There is even infrared night vision so you can see what they are doing in the dark. You can take an image snapshot of them sleeping or doing other enchanting and adorable things and you can record video, although I didn’t do either of these…yet. You can even check the temperature of the room.
Inside the box you will get the small and powerful round black,Wi-Fi camera unit, the user’s guide and an AC power adapter. To use this you need either a smartphone or tablet (android version 2.3.6 or above) or an iPhone/iPad ios version 4.2 or above or a PC or MAC Windows XP SP3 or above or MAC OS version 10.7 or above, Firefox Version 11.0 or above, Internet Explorer version 8.0 or above, Chrome version 18.0 or above, Safari version 5.1 or above , Java version 7 or above. You are instructed to download the ME software from either iTunes or the Play Store (for Android phones) or online.
It all is fairly simple, although I was dubious at first that setup would be easy. I followed the instructions, downloaded the software from the Play Store onto my Samsung Galaxy S4, and started the procedure to get the camera functional. To my surprise and delight, setup was literally, flawless. Within about 15 minutes I had the cam up and running. There was really nothing to it. Plug in the camera, follow the instructions, and you’re up and running.
I have tried a lot of gadgets that simply didn’t work, or that were hard to set up, or that disappointed me in some way. This Motorola Pet Monitor was fabulous. Obviously, it is tailor-made for the pet-obsessed, and it will make a wonderful gift for the holidays. But it does have a practical side for those who worry that the pet sitter might be locked out or that s/he was unable to come, or worse, that someone might be abusing your precious pets. And if your pet is sick and you still have to leave, this pet cam can show you what is really going so you don’t have to wonder, and worry.
