Zazen refers to a sitting meditation originating from the teachings of Buddha, centuries ago. But for this story, I’m talking about something entirely new: Zazen Eau de Parfum. It’s an exciting and brand-new fragrance by Robert Piguet.
Zazen Fragrance:
Zazen EDP was created by Aurélien Guichard who created a number of the other fragrances I really like from Robert Piguet (see advicesisters’ reviews). To me, this fragrance is the one you wear for the element of attraction. You won’t smell it across the room, but you will inhale the scent close up to someone, making it more intimate.
I always say that I don’t believe fragrance has a gender and this one is definitely a “for everyone” type of fragrance. Given the name, Zazen, you’d be correct if you assume that the fragrance is soothing, a bit green, but not overly sweet, floral, spicy, or in your face. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t intriguing or that it doesn’t last, because it is and it does.
The Notes:
The top notes are Apple, Saffron, and Mandarin Orange; the middle notes are Rice, Green Accord, Violet, and Orange Blossom. The base notes are Tonka Bean, Musk, and Amber. Everyone’s body chemistry is different. My skin isn’t like yours but on my skin, the fragrance quickly becomes slightly woodsy. By woodsy I mean the scent is more reminiscent of bamboo than plywood. It’s also powdery and softly floral. The violet note is sustained throughout. You can really smell the violet note. Not my favorite but blends well into the rest of the fragrance.
My Impression:
All of the Robert Piguet fragrances advicesisters.com has tried are sophisticated and beautifully crafted. This one is soft and great for those who don’t want to overpower themselves or others with heavy fragrances. It is a unique fragrance and, I think, a new direction for Robert Piguet.
Robert Piguet Zazen is available on the Robert Piguet website Bergdorf Goodman and Amazon. The SRP is $225/100ml
